Teaching
Philosophy
Brad Rollans understands that each student enjoys different styles of music and he encourages them to explore a diverse range of repetoire.
Each lesson is personally constructed around the student. Brad wants each of his students to enjoy and be secure in playing their horns in a diverse range of situations. He strives to have his students play in many different styles of music ranging from the modern day Hip Hop to Baroque. A student who has a large vocabulary of music under their fingertips is better prepared for any new pieces that might be placed in front of them. He encourages a well rounded approach to music and musicianship which includes many core principals.
Mr. Rollans includes ear training in his lessons, which allows students to pick out tunes more quickly by ear and simultaneously improves their sight reading skills.
His approach to learning scales differs from
the traditional approach of hacking through them for hours at a time.
Instead, Brad incorporates popular music of the students choice
in order to help them grasp not only the notes
of the scale, but also the sound. The basics of playing the horn are
covered in detail and a daily routine is constructed for each student
which includes core exercises needed to improve one's facility on
the horn.
Mr. Rollans understands that not every one wishes to be a professional
Trombonist or musician and loves to work with students who just enjoy
playing the horn. Brad tries to instill a love for all types of music
in his students and hopes that each of his students can experience
music on a different level then they had been previously; listening
to a piece of music rather than just hearing the sounds. His lessons
are fun, fast paced and laid back. For more information about private

For
Parents
As the parent of a young musician your encouragement and interest
in your child's musical development is an important part of their
education. Mr Rollans strives to keep his student's
parents informed about the progress made in each lesson and he encourages
the students to perform in front of their parents and family.
One of the hardest things for many young musicians to do is to perform
in front of people who they are familiar with. By performing in front
of their parents and family the student gains experience in dealing
with nerves and any stage fright issues. If you have any questions
or comments about lessons please don't hesitate to contact Brad personally
